Marc Hall, the gay Oshawa student who has been told he cannot bring his boyfriend to his high school prom, will be presented with a special community award at Egale’s Annual Gala on Thursday, April 11. The Egale Gala is an annual event to raise awareness of the important equality issues affecting the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered Canadians.
Marc Hall and his partner J.P. Dumond will attend the Gala to receive the award, and will join the hosts for the evening Michael Serapio, Rachel Giese and Guy Gagnier from PrideVision’s current affairs program “Shout!,” as well as special guests Jack Wetherall (Uncle Vic Grassi) and Sherry Miller (Jennifer Taylor) from the hit TV series “Queer as Folk.”
Also speaking will be MPs such as NDP MP Libby Davies, who this year became Canada’s first female MP to come out, Bloc Québécois MP Réal Ménard, and PC MP Scott Brison.
“This is one prom you can bring your partner to!” said John Fisher, Executive Director of Egale. “We’re delighted that Marc and his partner can attend the event to receive this award. Marc has displayed courage and integrity in standing up to a School Board that seems hell-bent on maintaining discrimination, no matter the cost.
All members of the media are welcome to attend. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served. Agenda attached.
