Supreme Court of Canada to Release Decision in Landmark Gay Rights Challenge
The Supreme Court of Canada will release its decision on Thursday in M v. H & Ontario, which will determine whether the “opposite sex” definition of “spouse” in Ontario’s Family Law Act must be changed to provide equal spousal support obligations for those in same-sex relationships. Together with a number of other organizations, EGALE intervened before the Supreme Court in support of changing the “opposite sex” definition of “spouse.”
Schedule of Events
The judgment will be released on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at 9:45 a.m.
As soon as possible after the judgment is released (about 10:30 a.m.), EGALE representatives will be available for comment in the foyer of the Supreme Court.
