EGALE Lobbying Kit: Election 2000

Introduction

In the upcoming federal election, it is up to all of us to make our voices heard and ensure that we elect MPs who will support basic equality rights for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people. This will be a critical election, which will determine both the political future of a number of parties and the values we hold dear as Canadians. Whether our rights are advanced or undermined in the next mandate of Parliament very much depends on whom we elect right now.

EGALE has prepared this election kit, containing the following documents:

  • What you can do: A concise statement of how you can make a difference in this election campaign;
  • Election Questionnaire: A community questionnaire on key federal issues, for distribution to your local MPs and candidates;
  • Leaders’ Questions: Questions we’re asking the party leaders;
  • Where the Parties Stand: A general overview of where each party stands on lesbian, gay and bisexual equality issues;
  • Summary of Key Votes—A Report Card: A breakdown of each party’s position on the key votes in the House of Commons;
  • EGALE’s MP/Candidate Database: Searchable database of MP/Candidates’ Quotes, Votes, and Contact information. Contains the voting record of all MPs on GLBT legislation, quotes from Hansard, the official record of debates in the House of Commons, and answers to the EGALE questionnaire from some candidates as well as contact information. Organized by Riding;
  • MP Voting Records: A breakdown of each individual MP’s voting record while in office.

The above files are also downloadable in MS Word / Excel Format.
Les dossiers en format MS Word/Excel sont disponible en français
